Richard Shapiro is an experienced photographer living in Brunswick who has been collecting and using vintage lenses for decades. His presentation includes showing images, offering an in-depth look at how vintage lenses work, bringing along a portion of his lens collection, and answering questions. Shapiro will talk about: what is meant by the term "vintage;" what vintage lenses do optically; what to look for in a used lens; tips for purchasing; and much more. Speed Date with a Photo Book "First conceived in 2022 by Miami photographer Josh Aronson, the “Photo Book Speed Date” concept is a playful twist on the speed dating trend that first started back in the late ‘90s. Rather than romantic connections, the event encourages participants to connect over their shared love of the books, whether coffee table books, art books, biographies, manuals, folios or technique-driven tomes, that influence their own photography.

This program is designed to provide the audience with an overview of converting an image from color to monochromatic gray scale using Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw. The fundamental information provided will also be beneficial to those utilizing Photoshop. You will gain an understanding of the significance of an image file’s luminance in the creation of a monochromic image, as well as how the hue and saturation of the colors within a scene are irrelevant to the final black and white image but are simultaneously useful in the process of converting the image. Following the section on image file processing, printed examples will be presented to illustrate the impact of paper surface on the final print.
