Portfolio projects provide a unique opportunity to consider your own work and create a showcase of images that reflect some fundamental aspect of your photographic journey.

They provide an opportunity to learn new techniques and to access the expertise of other photographers.

You receive feedback on your work in progress and you also get to provide feedback and support to your team members to help them fine tune their own projects.

No :) At its core a portfolio is just selected photos in sequence. You can make it that basic or you can stretch yourself to learn new skills. Your Portfolio Leader and fellow team members can and will help you with any technical questions or issues!

A theme is just a through line that connects your collection of images. You can base it on a subject or a style or even a skill you want to learn. You can focus on a particular place or color or compositional approach. Examples of past themes include people at work, a travel log of Cuba, macro mushrooms suspended in ice, photos of pond life, seascapes, infrared photography The limit is your own imagination.

Yes! Nothing is locked in. We’ve had participants change their themes the week before the presentation. Some members decide on the theme once they’re deep into the project based on the images they’re taking.

Team meetings are scheduled monthly via ZOOM and each team has a dedicated Facebook Group to share images, ask questions, and solicit feedback throughout the process.

Life happens. Meetings are not mandatory though they are highly recommended, not only for your own benefit but also so your team members can benefit from your thoughts and any expertise you might bring to the table.

The time commitment can vary based on what you want to put into it and what you want to get out of it. Some participants spend months capturing and editing photographs while some people put together a portfolio in a weekend.

No. There is no requirement to present your finished portfolio. You can participate to whatever degree you are comfortable with, although the member share is a wonderful way to get supportive feedback about your photography.

Yes! While one important purpose of the project is to be a catalyst to get you out shooting, you are free to raid your archives to create a portfolio if you wish. Or to mix new and old photos.

An artist’s statement exists to provide a summary of what you hope to achieve with your project. It is generally short and reflects why a particular theme or approach was chosen. It is not required but for some people it proves helpful to express their goals.

No - audio can be used to pull a portfolio together or to help create a mood but portfolios don't require audio to be successful. To support fellow artists and to ensure that the club can share videos with audio we do ask that any audio used be credited and either purchased or royalty-free. Team leaders can help with sources for royalty-free music.

Many video software options are available, some are technical and robust, some are simple, and there are plenty of options that are free to use. Your Portfolio Leader can provide a list of options.
